![]() If she wins the grand prize and gives all that money to Nonny's family, then the baby will be perfect. So she strikes a deal with the universe: She'll enter a contest with a project about Cecilia Payne, the first person to discover what stars are made of. Libby was born with Turner syndrome, and that makes some things hard. She’s not great at playing piano, sitting still, or figuring out how to say the right thing at the right time. Nonny and her husband are in a financial black hole, and Libby knows that babies aren't always born healthy. Twelve-year-old Libby Monroe is great at science, being optimistic, and talking to her famous, accomplished friends (okay, maybe that last one is only in her head). When her big sister Nonny tells her she's pregnant, Libby is thrilled-but worried. But she has lots of people who love her, and that makes her pretty lucky. With themes surrounding STEM, empowerment and empathy, Sarah Allen has taken her experiences with Turner Syndrome and written What Stars Are Made Of as a heart-warming celebration of individuality. ![]() It was as if I knew the person who was speaking to her in a way, I believe we all do as women.Having been one of the many people raised to be utterly edible, I found myself rooting for Marian to break free from the expectations set upon her from everyone at every turn. I wanted her to run and scream the moment Peter began talking. This book left me feeling hopeful after a storm of feeling the dread of recognizing and identifying myself in the comparison of the main character's life contrasted to my own. I would have already been absorbed by this book on paper, prying my ears away from it was even more difficult. Bring the characters and story to life with her use of pacing, unique and placing character voices, and enrapturing tone. ![]() I absolutely adore the way that Lorelei King narrated this delightful book. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This new series of Tessa Dare’s is off to an amazing start! - Smexy Booksĭare’s lyrical writing and expert, intense character development make this a romance to be savored with the eager expectation of future series installments - Publishers Weekly (starred review) This book is already in my top books for 2014. I think this is a truly unique historical that will appeal to readers who aren’t often historical fans. Dare starts her new series with a unique storyline, a sweet, fun nod to literary fandom, and two main characters who are perfect for each other yet never would have met if they weren’t each at a nadir in life’s journey. ![]() |
